Whether imbued with meaning—the red rose suggesting passion, the white lily purity—or examined for their intricate anatomy, flowers have long provided artists with a rich and compelling subject. They can represent mortality and the passage of time as they wilt and die, or spiritual awakening and renewal as they return and bloom again. In an effort to create a visual botanical garden, this exhibition brings together more than fifty varieties of flowers and flowering plants to observe, consider, and simply admire. The exhibition invites visitors to look at these plants through multiple lenses—as subjects for scientific study, conservation, and education, as well as objects of beauty and artistic interpretation.
